Looking Back on a Challenging (& Sunny) Year in the Garden

December already – I’m not quite sure how we got here so fast! I’ve been quieter on the blog over the last few months, thanks to a very full diary and a lot of time spent outdoors working in gardens. As the year winds down & the garden finally starts to rest, it feels like a good time to look back on what has been a memorable year, for all sorts of reasons.

It’s fair to say this hasn’t been the easiest year for gardening. The long, hot summer & very little rainfall really tested gardens (& us gardeners) to their limits. Lawns struggled, plants needed extra care & keeping everything alive sometimes felt like a full-time job in itself. There were plenty of early mornings, lots of watering & more than a few fingers crossed that the rain would finally arrive.

That said, there was also something pretty special about spending so much time outdoors in the sunshine. Even on the hottest days, there’s still nowhere I’d rather be than outside, hands in the soil, watching gardens slowly respond to a bit of care and attention. Seeing plants pull through tough conditions & gardens still looking good despite the odds was incredibly rewarding.

Throughout the year, I’ve had the pleasure of working in so many wonderful gardens & for such lovely people. Whether it was regular maintenance or helping shape gardens for the seasons ahead, I’m genuinely grateful to everyone who supported my business this year. Your trust, kindness & the many friendly chats along the way mean more than you know.

As winter settles in, the pace slows a little – a time to tidy, plan & look ahead to what next year might bring. I’m already looking forward to new projects, fresh growth & hopefully a bit more rain when we need it!

Thank you again for an amazing year. I wish you all a very happy festive season and a healthy, green-filled New Year. See you in the garden in 2026!
